The Solo Dog Walkers

As a team we believe that walks should take place in a variety of environments to help develop sensory skills, social skills, leash control and recall. Reinforcing good behaviour and working on those nagging traits is something that we pride ourselves in. Every month we see large packs being pulled around parks by inattentive dog walkers, and whilst this might work for some characters, it can be damaging to others and a breeding ground for bad behaviour.

It is for these reasons that our founder set up Hound Solo and made it our mission statement, as Solo Dog Walkers, to ONLY deliver 1 to 1 walks and give your dog 100% of our attention and energy while they are in our care.

The London Dog Walker

Jem James – Founder

Growing up with a Boxer Dog and a GSD you to learn (sometimes) the hard way about reading the different body language displayed by various temperaments within each breed.

In 2012 I joined one of London’s leading dog care companies and was exposed to a much wider range of environment and stimulation related issues. I also got to work with a huge variety of owners and canine personalities. I gained a comprehensive understanding of individual breed traits and instinctual characteristics, as well as firmly reinforcing how complex they are in their own unique ways.

During the 6 years I spent with my previous employer, I specialised in the more reactive and socially nervous dogs. I proudly became the ‘go to’ for clients who had struggled to find a suitable handler in the past and I found success in using the experience I had gained from training and controlling my own large breeds. I am proud to say that some of those early (human) clients are still with me to this day.

In my commitment to excellence, all my team members undergo a DBS check and as a business we are all fully protected by our pet care insurance. I also ask my staff to compete a canine first aid course so we have all bases covered.

Becky – General Manager

Soon after Becky joined my team, as an already experienced walker, it became obvious that she had a wealth of knowledge to offer. She has many years of animal care under her belt and growing up on a farm you can image she has seen it all.

Becky is a calm and caring individual who will instantly put you and your little friend at ease.

Fully trained in canine first aid, she has also completed her OCN accredited Level 3 in Canine learning, motivation and reinforcement. She is a firm believer that good dog training and behavior modification is rooted in good science.

Becky has experience with almost every breed you can come across in the UK, plus many more whilst traveling the world. She will always go above and beyond for our clients.

Caitlin

Caitlin joined Hound Solo in 2022 and we couldn’t be happier. Caitlin grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, where dogs were always a huge part of her family life.

From Rottweilers to Golden Retrievers, Dachshunds to “Pavement Specials” (The South African equivalent of a “Heinz 57”), Cait’s background with dogs is extensive and she loves nothing more than being out in the fresh air with her four legged buddies.

Having left a busy corporate job a few years ago, Cait took up dog walking around South London in 2017 and is such a caring and calm character that it has been a prefect match.

Godwin

Godwin and his beautiful American Bulldog Bass have been on a real journey together. Bass had a rough start to life, having been rescued from a gang that were abusing him. Something we sadly see in the headlines all too frequently.

At the same time as running his own nationwide courier business, Godwin rehabilitated Bass and  traveled up and down the UK with him. He has gradually guided his transformation from an unbalanced, reactive character to a calm and relaxed companion. For anyone that has gone through this process with a dog, you will know how it equips you with a very unique perspective when it comes to managing reactive dogs, all centered around a lot of patience, structure and understanding. As an ADHD life coach, Godwin finds it easy to apply the same dedication and expertise to help both people and pets achieve their fullest potential. Godwin is an excellent communicator and a very safe pair of hands.

Fred (and Roux aka the gremlin) have been an amazing addition to the team. Freddo has quickly become our Mr. Dependable basically because there is very little that can prevent him from getting to his clients be it snow, wind or illness. He is confident and structured in his approach and the bond he has with his dogs is a beautiful thing that is actually very sweet to observe.

Maddie

From confident Crufts competitors to nervous rescues, Maddie has dealt with them all. Having spent nearly 3 years as a Senior Supervisor at one of the larger London based doggy day care centers, you can understand how she has worked with a lot of breeds, ages and backgrounds.

” I have lots of years of experience in handling dogs with vastly different temperaments and in very different environments. I have worked with them individually as well as in larger group settings. I am really looking forward to getting back into 1 to 1 with my clients.

Over the years I have learned how important it is to adapt to every dog and their needs and that each dog is completely unique.

I am a huge supporter of a range of dog rescue charities, and currently volunteer for Romanian Rescue Appeal, a charity working to save the lives of stray dogs in Romania. Just under 2 years ago I adopted my own Rommie Rescue, Neve. I has been incredibly rewarding to see her grow in confidence and happiness from the place she was when she first came to me, and I have learned so much from her. When caring for your dog, I will always dedicate all of my time, energy and patience into making them their most happy, safe and comfortable”
